MATCH LEVITATION
EFFECT
You hold a playing card in the palm of your hand and place a match on top. Right under the spectators nose the match rises from the playing card about an inch into the air. You can even slide a playing card underneath it and above it, the match is really floating. The match slowly settles on the playing card, then you pick it up and hand it to the spectator to examine. |
EXPLANATION
To perform this trick you'll require some invisible elastic thread, which you can get here.
Tie two loops of the invisible elastic thread, lengthwise around the playing card, tight so that it's stretched. Attach some clear sticky tape to the back of the card to hold the thread in place.
Now bend the card slightly using your index finger at one end and thumb at the other, into a U shape. The thread should stay taught across the top as it's elastic.
Now straighten the card up again and place the match width-ways across the top of it. Tell the spectator it is about to levitate and *slowly* begin to bend the card. The taught invisible thread should keep the match horizontal, appearing to levitate above the card.
Wave another playing card above the match and slide it underneath, they will be amazed.
Now complete the illusion by slowly releasing the card so that the match comes to rest and pass it to them for inspection.
