PLAYING CARD LEVITATION

EFFECT

You hold a playing card flat in your outstretched hand. Slowly, the card begins to rise up, reaching an inch above your hand. After it gradually falls back down, you lift the card up and turn it around, showing there was no hookup, magnets or contraptions of any kind.

EXPLANATION

This trick requires that you make a small gimmick. You'll need 2 playing cards, some double-sided tape and a craft knife. I recommend you use the two jokers that come with a deck of cards, as they're not needed anyway.

Cut one of the cards in half length-wise using a craft knife. Now cut away it's white edges, right along the red border.

Stick the stripped down piece of card onto the back of the other playing card using double-sided tape, but only in the middle. Line it up so that the pattern matches and you can't see it's there.

Place the gimmick face-up into the fingers of your right hand. Use your right index finger and little finger to squeeze together the top and bottom of the trimmed piece of card. The card should bend into an upside-down U shape, lifting the top card up above your fingers.

As you make the card rise, shake your hand slightly, this will prevent anyone noticing your fingers coming together.
